HISTORY
New Jersey Randonneurs was founded and organized by Diane Goodwin in 2001 in order to offer brevets throughout the Northeast, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania and New York City.
With the help of Jennifer Wise, founder of Randonneurs USA, along with Sandiway Fong, and Chris Pile—the first two cyclists offering to volunteer with the organization—a full series of 200, 300, 400, and 600K brevets was created.
Leroy and Edith Varga were the first official "day of brevet" volunteers, and many participants relied upon them to complete their first brevets.
Tom Rosenbauer, later to become Eastern Pennsylvania Randonneurs' organizer, contributed to the series by creating a very hilly and unforgettable 600K route.
Diane was fortunate to have Laurent Chambard come on board—from abroad—as a mentor after Sandiway Fong relocated to Tucson.
Nate Morgenstern and Kyle Chu were both early members—Nate becoming the perennial lead rider and mentor, and Kyle, like Leroy and Edith, always volunteering at a moment's notice.
The New Jersey brevets and permanents continued to be a success, building on the hard work and dedication of Diane and the original crew of organizers and volunteers.
And today, this spirit of volunteerism and camaraderie in the service of fellow randonneuring enthusiasts lives on . . . .
